Synopsis
From Alexander Payne, the creator of the Oscar®-winning SIDEWAYS, THE DESCENDANTS is set in Hawaii and follows the unpredictable journey of an American family at a crossroads. Matt King (George Clooney), a husband and father of two girls, must re-examine his past and navigate his future when his wife is in a boating accident off Waikiki.
He awkwardly attempts to repair his relationship with his daughters – 10 year-old precocious Scottie (Amara Miller) and rebellious 17 year-old Alexandra (Shailene Woodley) – while wrestling with a decision to sell his family’s land. Handed down from Hawaiian royalty and missionaries, the Kings own some of the last priceless virgin parcels of tropical beach in the islands.
When Alexandra drops the bombshell that her mother was in the midst of a romantic fling at the time of the accident, Matt has to take a whole new look at his life, not to mention his legacy, during a week of momentous decisions. With his girls in tow, he embarks on a haphazard search for his wife’s lover. Along the way, in encounters alternately funny, troublesome and transcendent, he realizes he’s finally on course toward rebuilding his life and family.
I would say this was a good movie, especially for me, how a broken family problem can lead to a unification of a father and his 2 daughters. A must watch movie i recommended as it has a good family message especially in Hawaii where "Ohana" means family.
Now, this is what i have to say about this movie
It all started with a woman on a speed boat at the open sea
Then suddenly the mood in the hospital fill with gloomy. George Clooney character is introduced with him in the hospital with a woman laying on the bed still unconcious. Matt King, the sole man that is given the honour to hold on to their long line of descendants from the great king of Hawaii, King Kamehameha where the families including their cousins were deciding on selling their big bunch of land on the island of kahui.
A husband who has been neglected his duty as a family, especially to his wife and his daughters. Matt King, got a call from his daughter school complaining about the book of picture of her mother laying on the bed and showed it to her classmates that disturbed the school and class conditions. N the hillarious part is when Matt bring Scottie to apologise to 1 of her friend that she insulted.
Matt after that decided to bring scottie to Hawaii to fetch her sister where she's currently studying, and bring her back to see their dying mother. But as they arrived at Alex hostel, they were shocked to see Alex were drunking in the middle of the night while talking nonsense.
And it all come to the next morning. Where Alex explained to Matt that her mother, is cheating on him. Matt rushly to his friends house to seek the truth and finally found the answer. As he get back home, he see Alex with his friends were currently talking at the swimming pool. This is where Matt decided to bring Alex and Scottie to see their grandfather and grandaughter and to find the person that been cheated on him, Brian Speer with 2 e.
It was found that the person they were searching, Brian Peers is currently on vacation at Kahui and it was Matt decision to have a holiday with his family with an attention to find her wife lover. It was on the island that the bond is unified.
As Matt were jogging on the beach, he suddenly bump into her wife lovers that he decided to sneak around for awhile and found out that they were staying at a cottage where his cousins own. And then he decided to have a talk on the next day where he took his daughters for a day at the beach and suddenly Brian Speer wife go out to the beach and Matt got the chance to talk for a while.
Matt decided that Alex should talk with Brian wife and pull out the attraction from her husband while Matt talk with Brian and with good intentions, he found out that Brian has slept with her wife, in his rooms for 2 times and finally decided to tell him to go and visited her to say goodbye as she is about to die in a few days.
A hard decisions then coming in as Matt need to decide wether to continue the deal to sell the land which Brian is the middle man in the deal and to decide to take good care of his children.
And finally, Matt decided not to sell the land and surprise his cousins with his decisions to keep it for another 7years. And finally, Matt and 2 of his daughters, were back together in a bond that really brings a true meaning of Ohana.
p/s - This is not a complete review from me as it was really a good movie and i said, you all should watch it.
